Z Corporation is seeking a to join our fast growing dynamic Research & Development team. You will be responsible for providing guidance and expertise in mechanical engineering to design complex electro-mechanical equipment and systems.  The role provides mechanical engineering leadership in developing and enhancing our complete product line of 3D Printers and ensures the quality of output of multi-disciplinary mechanical engineering team. Develops conceptual design, design decisions for mechanical function and drives them to final product in a highly cross-functional team environment.This is a senior role in the company.  The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and be able to take a project from a starting concept to completion with minimal guidance.  The ideal candidate will have experience with or the ability to work in a research and development environment and able to contribute to the effectiveness and bottom line of the company in providing quality new products and upgrades to current 3-D printer product.

Responsibilities:

 

This position involves taking roles within development projects with exposure to all aspects of development from brainstorming to final delivery. You will be responsible for the generation of concepts and layouts of systems in CAD, detailed design of components and products, tolerance analysis of product designs, preparation of technical reports, and product documentation.
 

This Candidate Will:


  • Draw on your experience to deliver creative solutions for 3-D printers, their critical sub-assemblies and accessories
  • Lead tasks from all areas of the product development process, from specification, concept generation, design, prototyping and transfer to manufacture
  • Make individual contributions and manage tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary product development team
  • Design components, systems and assemblies with 3-D CAD and other engineering tools
  • Build and test prototypes of systems
  • Search for and specify components
  • Work with in house departments and outside vendors to assure manufacturability and obtain price quotes
  • Create detailed component and assembly documentation
  • Participate in meetings and presentations with team members, communicating ideas and engineering concepts to all disciplines


Minimum Requirements:


To meet the requirements of this role you should have an excellent undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and greater than 8 years practical experience, with proven technical skills, in a mechanical engineering design environment. Your experience will include lead roles in complex technical design programs. Experience in electro-mechanical and motion control device development such as inkjet printers, robotic devices, precision equipment and mid-volume production (500-5,000 units) is strongly preferred. You should have excellent team working skills and must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time. You should be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

Education/Skills:


  • A creative and innovative approach combined with an appreciation of the use of quantitative analysis in development
  • An innovative engineering mind, a natural curiosity, and a passion to find creative engineering solutions for new product development.
  • Experience designing for multiple materials (e.g. metals, plastics, composites) and fabrication techniques (e.g. machining, injection molding, casting)
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong academic record (Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or related engineering field, Master’s degree is a plus)
  • CAD skills required, FEA skills strongly preferred
  • Requires an individual capable of paying particular focus to modular design, DFM/DFA, cost efficiency and part count minimization as they relate to various physical scales and sales volumes.
  • Working knowledge and experience of the regulatory environment in the USA and EU is a plus
  • C++ or other Programming skills a plus
